Remote Access Services
Last updated on 6 October 2025
With the Remote Access Services (RAS) from Remote, you can securely and user-friendly connect to remote machines and installations. This solution provides a practical form of secure remote access that enables engineers and operators to perform their work directly without unnecessary complexity.
Supported Protocols
The RAS portal supports various protocols so you always have the right tool for the job. Including:
- VNC – for graphical remote desktops
- RDP – for Windows Remote Desktop
- SSH – for secure command-line access to Linux systems
- Telnet – for simple serial or network connections
- HTTP/HTTPS – for accessing web interfaces of devices or applications
Thanks to these protocols, you manage diverse equipment and systems through one central environment.
Access via Browser and Mobile App
You have access to the portal via a web browser, but also via the Remote app for iOS and Android. No additional client software is needed and you don’t have to open ports to the outside world, which increases security and ease of use. Regardless of which protocol you use, communication with the machine always runs through a secure HTTPS connection in the browser or app.
Creating a Remote Access Service
Creating a Remote Access Service is done entirely through the portal. Steps you follow:
- Edit the location where the machine is located.
- Add the machine by entering a name and the local IP address.
- Create the Remote Access Service by choosing the desired protocol and entering the port of the service on the machine.
After creation, the configuration automatically adjusts in the VPN gateway, so the machine is immediately securely accessible.
Automatic Scanning for Machines and Services
Instead of entering everything manually, you can also run a scan when creating or editing a location. The gateway automatically scans for available machines and detects available Remote Access Services. Found machines are added to the location in the portal, including which services are available per machine, so you can immediately activate the right service.
Maximum Security
Security is central to the Remote environment. All connections run through multiple layers:
- Secure HTTPS connections – for safe communication with the portal
- Reverse proxy functionality – to shield internal services and make them accessible only through the gateway
- VPN tunnels – for a fully encrypted and reliable connection to the remote location
This way, both data transfer and the underlying infrastructure are protected.
Smart Port Forwarding via the Gateway
A major advantage of the Remote solution is automatic configuration of port forwarding. You don’t need to create complex network rules:
- In the portal, you specify on which local IP address and which port the service runs.
- The VPN gateway automatically configures the correct forwarding rules.
- The user can directly connect via the chosen protocol.
This keeps remote access both secure and simple without having to expose ports to the outside.
Who is this Useful For
The RAS solution is intended for engineers and operators who need to act quickly and securely during service, maintenance or troubleshooting. With support for VNC, RDP, SSH, Telnet and HTTP/HTTPS, you can access graphical interfaces, Windows environments, Linux command lines, serial connections and web interfaces. The combination of automatic configuration, reverse proxy and VPN tunnels ensures your work remains secure and efficient.
