Connect energy meters for reliable dashboards

An energy dashboard is useful only when its meter values are understood consistently. Start with direction, scaling, time and each meter’s place in the installation, not with the chart.

Select the correct meter profile

Schneider Electric publishes Modbus register lists for PowerLogic PM5000 variants. The exact meter determines interfaces and data. Select documentation by model and firmware, not just family name. Other brands need their own profiles.

Identify what each meter measures

Document the feeder, load or generator behind it. Check transformer ratios and direction settings with the installer. Adding main and submeter totals may double-count energy. A reversed import/export sign can make a dashboard falsely show export.

Connect the data route

Over Ethernet, ServiceGate can reach an approved Modbus TCP source. RS485 needs suitable hardware or a gateway. Coordinate bus use and polling with existing systems. The router collects the agreed registers and sends them to the storage, dashboard and alerting service.

Separate counters from instantaneous values

For energy consumption, compare suitable counter readings over a known period. For power trends, use the correct instantaneous or interval value. Handle resets, rollover and replacement explicitly. Do not silently fill gaps with zero; label cost estimates with their documented assumptions.

Check before comparing locations

  • Compare the meter display and stored source value.
  • Verify units, phase/total values and sign convention.
  • Test time zones, day boundaries and outage recovery.
  • Document meter replacements and electrical changes.

Insight is not automatically billing

A dashboard can help identify unusual use. It does not establish savings without validation or make the system suitable for billing. Discuss the reporting you need with us; scope and pricing are tailored to the application.

Access, data and ongoing management

All ServiceGate routers support remote access and data logging/monitoring. Available data and services depend on equipment and configuration. Manage locations, users and groups through the Remote Portal. Segmentation and suitable firewall rules limit access but do not replace security updates for the router and installation.
