Read Grundfos pump data through Modbus
Last updated on 22 September 2026
Viewing pump status and measurements remotely can help prepare maintenance. For Grundfos, integration starts with the exact pumping system and communication interface, not just the brand on the pump.
Check pump and communication module together
Grundfos documents CIM 200 for Modbus RTU and CIM 500 for Modbus TCP on compatible products. Check the compatibility list and functional profile for your pump or booster system. An arbitrary CIM module will not suit every pump.
TCP and RTU need different connections
For Modbus TCP, ServiceGate reaches the approved Ethernet interface. RTU also requires suitable serial hardware or a gateway, wiring and communication settings. Record address, baud rate and parity from the manufacturer documentation. Do not add a second active master to an existing RTU bus without assessing the architecture.
Start with a small read list
Select available operating state, pressure, running hours and fault codes. Use the correct profile’s register list and verify data type, scaling and unit. Not every model provides every value. Begin with reading: a writable register is not permission to change pump operation or setpoints remotely.
From ServiceGate to useful information
The logging configuration defines which values the router retrieves and which service receives them. Then configure trends, dashboards and alerts. Keep measurement time and stale data visible. For unreliable connectivity, separately specify and test the local buffering required and available.
Test without disrupting the process
- Compare readings with the local pump interface.
- Check address conventions and responses to an invalid register.
- Test WAN failure with local pump automation still operating.
- Have the manager define who follows up faults and who may make changes.
Prepare for service
Remote access can help a specialist reach an authorised controller or service environment. Mechanical and electrical work, isolation and physical maintenance remain local tasks. Send the pump model, module, firmware and register profile for an assessment.
Access, data and ongoing management
All ServiceGate routers support remote access and data logging/monitoring. Available data and services depend on equipment and configuration. Manage locations, users and groups through the Remote Portal. Segmentation and suitable firewall rules limit access but do not replace security updates for the router and installation.
