Remote Client

Last updated on 6 October 2025

The Remote Client is a lightweight tray application for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. You can easily download the Remote Client through the Remote Portal for hassle-free installation and startup. The client provides secure remote access to your installations and is designed for daily use by technical staff.

Secure VPN Connection

The client establishes an encrypted VPN connection with Remote’s VPN gateways and controllers. The connection uses OpenVPN, an industry-recognized protocol, ensuring automatic handling of all data encryption and access control. You can choose between TCP, UDP, or sTunnel, or let the client determine this automatically.

User and Access Management

The Remote Portal gives administrators complete control over who has access to which locations. Administrators can specify which users are allowed to connect to specific installations and monitor who has connected to which location and when. For location and router management, see the portal management documentation: Portal – Management.

Simple Connection via the Portal

The client is recognized by your browser when you initiate a connection. Connection setup is handled entirely through the Remote Portal, eliminating the need for manual VPN profile creation. You can establish a reliable OpenVPN connection with just a few clicks, ideal for daily support and maintenance.

Access to Local Network and Devices

Once the VPN is active, you have access to the installation’s local network and can reach connected machines as if you were physically present. On Windows, the client can create a virtual serial port, allowing you to access devices connected through the gateway’s serial port. For information about serial connections on gateways, see the hardware page for ServiceGate: serial port.

Security and Convenience Combined

The Remote Client combines robust security with ease of use. There’s no need to manage separate VPN settings; everything is handled through the portal and client. Thanks to OpenVPN, the choice of TCP/UDP/sTunnel, and centralized user management functions, you have a stable and secure solution for your remote operations. This approach makes it simple to organize secure remote access without unnecessary complexity.
