The departments Service, Maintenance and Modernisation at the Dutch Railways (NS) are responsible for train maintenance and work with numerous partners that need to be able to access their machines remotely, for instance so as to resolve malfunctions. One of the NSās most important demands was to be able to decide who could have access to a particular location, to what level and for how long. Software security and homogeneity were essential in this.
We realised a needs and demands package for the NS by applying our standard remote access solution in such a way that they would have full administrative control over the users in our portal. This was the best solution as far as the NS were concerned as it was smart, reliable, secure, homogenous and flexible.
We placed our ServiceGate V2 in each machine within the production environment and advised the NS on how they could best assign rights to the users in our portal. These users are mainly machine manufacturers and installers and get temporary access to the PLC or machine from the NS until the problem is resolved. Once the problem is sorted, the connection to the PLC/machine is broken.
